Independence Day Parade Set for Saturday, July 3rd

The Edina Parade Committee has announced that the 14th Annual Edina Independence Day Parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010.  The theme for the 2010 parade is "Celebrate Freedom!"

The parade is celebrated by more than 15,000 spectators who line 50th Street from Willson Road by Edina's City Hall to the US Bank parking lot near Halifax Avenue.

Because July 4th falls on a Sunday, the parade will be held on the preceding Saturday.  By scheduling the parade on a Saturday, the committee sought to ease potential conflicts with other family activities.  "This is a big day for the community," said Richard Olson, Parade Committee Chair, "and we wanted to make it as easy as possible for everyone to come out and celebrate together."  In addition, the committee aimed to avoid any difficulties that the morning event could present for the churches that are situated along the parade route.
