Committee Announces 2012 Parade Theme

posted Jan 9, 2012 9:23 PM by Edina Parade   [ updated Jan 9, 2012 9:24 PM ]

The Edina 4th of July Parade Committee is pleased to announce that the theme of the 2012 parade will be Broad Stripes & Bright Stars.  This theme celebrates our national heritage with the inspiring words of The Star Spangled Banner, describing our flag flying over Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

The lyrics of The Star Spangled Banner come from "Defence of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet, Francis Scott Key, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British Royal Navy ships in the Chesepeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.

The Star Spangled Banner was made the national anthem on March 3, 1931.

Survey Says...

posted May 31, 2011 7:13 PM by Edina Parade

For months we've had a parade survey on the front page of this web site.

We ask members of our audience what they like best about the parade, what else they like about the parade, and what they think we can do to improve the parade.

The planning committee has learned a lot about what the community thinks about the parade from this survey, and has used the results extensively as they work on the 2011 event.  We hope you will take a few minutes to share your point of view.

Here's a summary of the responses to the first question:

What's the best thing about the parade?

The bands 30%
Being with friends and family on a summer day 25%
Candy! 18%
The horses 8%
The fire trucks and police cars 8%
Other 11%
